A Virginia Tech research group lead by two biochemistry graduate students has isolated proteins responsible for the iron-sulfur cluster assembly process and witnessed the necessary protein interactions in vivo -- within a cell. They have captured pathway intermediates and observed protein interactions between the two major players in iron-sulfur cluster assembly.

 International research group led by Yasushi Okamura, a professor in Japanese National Institute for Physiological Sciences, Okazaki, and Peter Larsson, a professor in Oregon Health & Science University, Oregon, US, found that a single protein of VSOP, Voltage Sensor Only Protein/ Hv1, can carry protons even without making a multimeric complex.

Snakes, fish, chickens, and humans all begin life in much the same way. Early in their transformation from an amorphous blob of cells into a fully developed animal, growing cells pinch off into a string of identical segments destined to become individual vertebrae, which will later sprout blood vessels, peripheral nerves, and muscle. اين پژوهشگران اعلام کرده اند که فلفل تند مي تواند مانع از رشد سلول هاي سرطاني در مبتلايان به سرطان پروستات و عاملي در درمان اين بيماري باشد. اعضاي گروه تحقيقاتي در مرکز پزشکي سيدار سينا در لس آنجلس، آمريکا، اعلام کرده اند که آزمايش هاي انجام شده روي موش هاي آزمايشگاهي و همچنين سلول هاي پروستات مبتلايان به سرطان پروستات نشان مي دهد که ماده شيميايي کاپسايين، عامل تندي ميوه فلفل، به نابودي سلول هاي سرطاني منجر مي شود.

Duke University Medical Center scientists have found a mechanism that allows cells starved of iron to shut down energy-making processes that depend on iron and use a less efficient pathway involving glucose. This metabolic reshuffling mechanism, found in yeast cells, helps explain how humans respond to iron deficiency, and may help with diabetes research as well.
